WFW Oscar Pool '06

Chrome Dome
WFW OSCAR POOL
At the last minute, I thought, "Why not do an Oscar Pool for the ol' blog?", and posted a topic on CAGN's Social about it. Boardies Stardrifter and John Constantine submitted their predictions on the topic, and not many others did, leaving us with a cage match tastic three v. three, bitch.

John Stewart did a great job, even though a lot of the crowd didn't really seem to be laughing with him, like with Chris Rock last year. Like on the Daily Show, Stewart's best was when he went off script. Heres a compilation someone made of his best material:

The overall awards show was pretty average as always, since there were a lot of mess ups, but was okay since they make the show better anyways. My favorites included Lauren Bacall's, who seemed to be high, line stumbling, and Jennifer Garner's trip, which would have made the show ten times as entertaining if she had actually fell.

Anyways, heres who won and such:

My number one thought after the ceremonies was: What the Hell is "Crash"? Did "Crash" even play in the UK? Why do I not know one person who has seen "Crash"?

I obviously put a bit too much faith in "Brokeback Mountain," but in my defense, its huge here, and I just sort of assumed that its popularity would stretch everywhere.

Oh, and nice one to Philip Seymour Hoffman for the Oscar win. His Capote was spot-on, and he made the film go from great to exceptional.

Crash is one of those movies with thirty different plots and no real "main" characters where in the end, all of the stoires, which are all about racism, come together. Shot like an old school noir and wonderfully acted.

Great film. Certaintly the best film quality wise last year. I was expecting no nods to it, but hey, looked what it won.

UK release later this fall, I believe. It was "indie screened", so I guess thats one of the reasons it didn't get around.

Great job, JC. Thanks for participating.
